Universal Materials Incubator Co., Ltd. (UMI) announced that it has begun joint activities with the Development Bank of Japan Inc. (DBJ) aimed at supporting growth in the material and chemical industries. At the same time, the DBJ has decided that it will invest in the UMI 2 Investment Limited Partnership managed and operated by UMI.
The material and chemical industries are important industries that account for a substantial ratio of all industrial activities in Japan. Japanese companies have brought about many innovations in this field, supporting the growth and development of other industries as well. Recently, however, amid major changes in industry structures on a global scale, many companies in the material and chemical industries have been under pressure to create new businesses or make changes to their profit structures.
In this backdrop, UMI and the DBJ have agreed to undertake joint growth support activities for the material and chemical industries using their respective expertise and resources. Up to now, by seeking out exceptional technologies and businesses that form the foundations for future industries and fostering human resources to support those technologies and businesses, UMI has provided a platform for the creation of new business in the material and chemical industries. Through this collaboration with the DBJ, by using the DBJ’s financial services, which combine investments and financing, UMI is able to accommodate a wide range of finances, including investments and loans.
Through these joint activities, by providing financial solutions in keeping with the diverse needs of companies, and by collaborating with various companies in the material and chemical industries and with financial institutions that support the intended goals, UMI and the DBJ will contribute to the growth of Japan’s material and chemical industries.
